His German team mate was full of praise for him and the team as a whole after the upgrades they introduced at the United States Grand Prix appear to be paying off – it was an added bonus that their standings rivals RB failed to score in Mexico.

“I’m very happy for Kevin, he drove a brilliant weekend and was so quick in the race, so really deserved for him,” Hulkenberg explained. “Very positive, we’ve been competitive and a great weekend for us.

“It feels very good and very rewarding. I think everyone’s work is paying off and we’re a consistent contender for points which is obviously great news – I think four time points in a row now for me, including the Sprint in Austin.

“That shows the consistency that we have within the package and car. It makes me look forward to next week and the three after as well.”
